The Department of Sanskrit was established in the college on the 1st September of 1979. Sanskrit is considered as the root of most of the modern languages of the world. It has correlation with the other subjects like Assamese, Education, Sociology and the subjects of science stream too. Therefore, to enlighten the students with Sanskrit, the college authority undertook the pious task of opening the department in the college with a single faculty member. Since the time of establishment the department has undergone a long journey and crossed several hindrances. In 1982, the college authority wished to introduce Sanskrit in the Degree level pass-course. Though a few students have taken Sanskrit yet the department is running smoothly with quality product.
