The Department of History was established in 1969. Initially the subject was taught only in the general course. The major course in the department was started in 1991. Since then, keeping in view the main objectives, the department tried to impart historical knowledge, development of ethos such as nationalism, pride in the rich heritage of India as well as Assam etc. The department has three teachers concerning the adequacy of the faculty; the history department has been maintaining the ideal teacher student ration i.e. 1:3 in the major course and 1:10 in the general course. The faculty members are competent regarding teaching learning process. All the teachers have UGC norms and qualifications.
